Egil Selvik is a Norwegian goalkeeper, born in Sandnes in 1997, who serves as a backup option behind first-choice Ørjan Nyland in Norway's 2026 World Cup squad — the nation's first World Cup since 1998. After a long climb through the Norwegian leagues (Sandnes Ulf, Odd, and a regular run at FK Haugesund) and a fleeting half-season at Udinese, he signed for Watford in January 2025, where he became the Championship side's undisputed number one and earned his way into the national reckoning. NRK pundit Kristoffer Løkberg calls him a "genuine challenger" for the starting job, and Selvik himself hasn't shied away from the talk, telling VG bluntly: "Det er ikke umulig det. Det er ambisjonen" ("It's not impossible. That's the ambition"). One colourful blemish on his record: while at Haugesund he was sent off in a 5-1 win — picking up both a yellow and a straight red in the same match.
